Clarendon, a highly competitive fully funded scholarship, is awarded by the most privileged collegiate research at the University of the World, University of Oxford. Clarendon offers over 200 new, fully-funded scholarships each year for assisting outstanding graduate scholars. Clarendon is the University’s largest scholarship scheme. The scholarship covers the course fees and a grant for living expenses for the period of fee liability. The Fund is supervised by the Clarendon Fund Steering Group which is designed to ensure the funds are effectively running. The fund is provided to both full-time and part-time students.

The motto of Clarendon Scholarship

The Clarendon Scholarship, which was first created to aid international students, started inviting research students to Oxford about 2001. After that, in 2012, the scholarship was expanded to cover complete tuition for scholars from the UK and the EU.

Throughout this time, the program has aimed to assist outstanding graduate students while they pursue their education at Oxford University. Clarendon now grants over 130 scholarships each year. Clarendon is the university’s major scholarship program, with over 450 students participating in classes at any given time.

Clarendon aims to be different from other funding schemes by creating a community of the brightest minds and offering an inspiring graduate experience. Scholars on a full-time course receive £15,009 for 2020-21 and part-time scholars are expected to receive at least  £5,003 for the academic year 2020 – 21.

The Clarendon Fund derived its name from the Earl of Clarendon. The Oxford University Press (OUP) provides the primary support of 9.2 million euros per year to the Clarendon Fund. Clarendon also receives funding from multiple sources which amount to 8.9 million euros per year to the fund.

The sole purpose of the Clarendon Fund is to support academically outstanding graduate students through their studies at the University of Oxford. The Clarendon Fund was initiated in 2001 and expanded till 2012 to support overseas students. The purpose of the fund remained the same throughout the period. Clarendon increases the number of scholarships each year and for the year 2022-23, the number is over 200.
